Environmental Monitoring System architecture

ARCHITECTURE

The IPSM LEADS Environmental Monitoring System has a proven and flexible system architecture that is designed to support a variety of customer installations.  The system is comprised of four components: ingest, processing and storage, editing and visualization, and public access.

INGEST
The Ingest component is the beginning of the data pipeline.  LEADS EMS is capable of ingesting virtually any type or format of data.  We are not restricted to one instrument vendor – you select and use the instruments that make sense for what you need to measure.  Adding new instruments or measurements is fast and painless.  As instrument technology advances, you aren’t left behind.  The following instruments are currently supported.

    Air Quality Data
    • Ozone *
    • Carbon Monoxide *
    • Sulfur Dioxide *
    • Nitric Dioxide *
    • Trace Gas Measurements *
    • Particulates – PM-2.5, PM-10
    • Nitric Oxide *
    • Oxides of Nitrogen *
    • NOy (The Sum Of All Reactive Nitrogen Oxides) *
    • Hydrogen Sulfide *
    • Total Non-Methane Organic Compounds (TNMOC) *

*The standard LEADS EMS package provides automatic calibrations and other automatic QA/QC changes for these instruments.

LEADS can integrate any weather observations, numerical forecasts, satellite, or radar imagery with your air and water quality data.  With a NOAAPort ingest feed, the following weather data is available for integration and visualization with your air and water quality data.

National and International Weather Data

PROCESSING AND STORAGE
Processing and Storage is the heart and soul of the LEADS EMS.  It is the “Engine” that powers the rest of the system.  This component decodes all the ingested data and provides a set of services and key components that integrate into Editing and Visualization and Public Access components. Data decoders are the beginning of the process. LEADS EMS takes the raw data and decodes it into formats that it can use to perform data fusion, geo-location, and storage of data for use by other system components. IPSM not only supports standard data types, but also has the framework in place to instantly add custom decoders to decode unique customer data types.

EDITING AND VISUALIZATION
Editing and Visualization are the poinst where meteorologists, environmental analysts and customers view and interact with LEADS data.  IPSM has continuously upgraded and refined all our user interfaces.  We use subject matter experts, along with feedback from our existing customer base, to ensure that the end user experience meets our expectations.  Standard web-based reports cover all key environmental measurements.

PUBLIC ACCESS
Providing information to the public is a key to any successful environmental monitoring program.  IPSM provides a robust web-based reporting system that delivers meaningful and timely information directly to the public.  Automated quality checks and end-user definable limit checks built into LEADS EMS ensures that near real-time data delivery to the public is consistent with established quality assurance objectives and is truly representative of ambient conditions.
